PM methods for project managers

StructuredPracticalResults-oriented

You may be familiar with this: the method is known – but things still go wrong in the meeting. The group doesn’t go along with it, decisions remain open and in the end everyone has taken something different away with them.

Not because the method was wrong. But because no one has learned how to moderate it safely.

BusinessMind trains project managers in the PM methods that really count in day-to-day project work – and in such a way that they can then use them confidently themselves.

Project managers are often faced with questions such as:

  • Which method suits which project phase – kick-off, planning, management, completion?

  • How do I moderate a SWOT, a retrospective or a prioritization so that the team is on board?

  • How do I deal with group dynamics when interests diverge?

Methodological knowledge alone is not enough here. You need practical moderation skills.

We train PM methods in a 2-day face-to-face format – based on the tandem principle: participants prepare methods independently, moderate them for each other and reflect on them together. No frontal teaching, but learning by doing – with a fictitious project as the common thread running through both days.

Typical elements of our PM method training:

  • Methods for kick-off, planning and management (e.g. values exercise, SWOT, team canvas, planning poker)
  • Prioritization and decision-making (2×2 matrix, consent)
  • Retrospective formats for project teams
  • Sandwich feedback as a tool for project meetings
  • Understanding and utilizing group and rank dynamics

The result is not only more methodological knowledge – but project managers who can guide their teams safely through every project phase.

Our PM method training is aimed at:

  • Project managers with initial practical experience
  • Managers who manage projects without classic PM training
  • Teams that want to make their project meetings more structured and effective
  • Organizations that want to build up and pass on PM competence internally

At the end of the training, you will not only have more methodological confidence. But also:

  • a clear picture of which method is used when and how
  • Confidence in moderation – even if the group does not play along
  • Feedback competence as a fixed tool in everyday project work
  • Project managers who provide orientation – not just manage plans

Would you like to not only know PM methods, but really master them? We would be happy to have a brief discussion to find out what a suitable training course for your team might look like.
